Vermont Secretary of Education

Zoie Saunders serves as Secretary of the Vermont Agency of Education, appointed by Governor Phil Scott. With nearly two decades of experience improving student outcomes and expanding pathways to college and careers, she brings a data-driven, equity-focused approach to education leadership.

Before joining Vermont, Saunders served as Chief Education Officer for the City of Fort Lauderdale and in a senior strategy and innovation role at Broward County Public Schools, one of the nation’s largest districts. Her work has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor, the National League of Cities, and Neighborhoods USA. She holds a B.A. from Harvard University and an M.Ed. from Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College of Education and Human Development.
