Trent North is the superintendent of the Douglas County School System, overseeing a district with over 26,000 students and 4,075 employees.
A native of Carrollton, North grew up in public housing and earned degrees in Political Science, Educational Leadership, and Curriculum from the University of West Georgia and Lincoln Memorial University.
North’s career began as a paraprofessional in Carrollton City Schools, where he became the first African American principal. He also served as director of community affairs, program compliance, human resources, and Race to the Top.
Beyond education, North served on the Carroll County Board of Commissioners for 25 years, focusing on economic growth and community partnerships.
Since becoming superintendent in 2017, North has emphasized student achievement, family partnerships, and employee engagement. His “student first” approach prioritizes academic and social success, alongside innovative safety initiatives.
Under North’s leadership, the district has received state, regional, and national recognition. He was named Georgia Superintendent of the Year in 2022 and was a finalist for National Superintendent of the Year in 2023.
North is committed to preparing students for the future, fostering a challenging curriculum, and supporting social and emotional well-being. He is active in numerous community and state organizations, including the Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club, Douglas County Chamber, and the Governor’s Superintendents Advisory Task Force.
He and his wife, Toya, have two daughters and a grandpuppy named Levi.
