McKenzie Snow

Director of the Iowa Department of Education

Director Snow is dedicated to ensuring every child has access to a high-quality education that inspires and prepares them for the future.

Her leadership emphasizes excellent teaching, family and educator empowerment, evidence-based innovation, strong college and career pathways, and transparent, student-focused funding. Her career began teaching remedial courses at the University of the Free State in South Africa. She has since served as Virginia’s Deputy Secretary of Education, overseeing early childhood through postsecondary pathways, and as New Hampshire’s Division Director of Academics, Special Education, Career Development, Adult Education, Wellness, and Nutrition. At the federal level, Snow has served as Special Assistant to the President on the White House Domestic Policy Council, Senior Adviser at the Office of Management and Budget, and Policy Director at the U.S. Department of Education. She was previously Policy Director at the Foundation for Excellence in Education. A Fulbright grantee, Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar, and Presidential Leadership Scholar with the Bush Institute and Clinton Foundation, Snow is a proud fifth-generation Midwesterner.
