Dr. Dan A. Sims

Superintendent of the Bibb County School District

Dr. Dan A. Sims became Superintendent of the Bibb County School District in July 2022, bringing 28 years of experience and a deep commitment to public education and community service. A proud Georgia native, Dr. Sims holds three degrees from Georgia State University, including a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership. He has also completed the Urban Superintendent’s Academy at the University of Southern California and holds Results Coaching certification, with further training from the Harvard and Relay Graduate Schools of Education. Before Bibb County, Dr. Sims served as an Associate Superintendent in the Atlanta Public School System, where he was instrumental in strategic planning, budgeting, and resource alignment, and spent 21 years with the Fulton County School System in various educational roles.

Dr. Sims is dedicated to student and community engagement, demonstrating his #Built4Bibb spirit. Outside of his professional commitments, he enjoys golf, baseball, writing, swimming, weightlifting, and family time. Married to Traci, an educator, for over 27 years, their family was recognized by “Ebony Magazine” as one of America’s “Coolest Black Families.” Dr. Sims is a 24-year cancer survivor and has been active in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., the Renaissance Church of Christ, and various educational and community boards. His involvement in Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs, as well as professional associations, underscores his lifelong dedication to service and advocacy.
