Angélica Infante-Green has served as Rhode Island Commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Education since April 2019. During her tenure, she has guided the state’s education system through the COVID-19 pandemic, established the LEAP Task Force to address learning recovery, and implemented readiness-based graduation requirements.
A key focus of her leadership has been the state intervention in Providence Public School District, working to transform the underperforming system. In 2023, she became the first Latina Rhode Island education chief to serve on the Board of Directors for the Council of Chief State School Officers.
Before Rhode Island, Infante-Green was Deputy Commissioner of New York State Education Department’s Office of Instructional Support after beginning her career as a bilingual teacher in the South Bronx. As a first-generation American who learned English in school and parent of a differently-abled child, she brings a personal perspective to her work, advocating for an “enrichment” approach for students with additional needs. She holds Master’s degrees in Education and School Administration from Mercy College.
